We have conducted the PIA (private internet access) test for weeks to write the most comprehensive unbiased review. We sought answers to critical questions.
Ease of Use
In the past, a conspicuous failure of the PIA was an unusual, intuitive and grossly outdated desktop application. Fortunately, those days have already passed.
The PIA recently released a more modern application that looks much easier and better to navigate, clearly taking notes from its competitors. There are numerous customization options for desktop notifications, startup startup, and a kill key that has the ‘always on’ option. The PIA has come a long way, but it’s not perfect: the advanced settings are still opening in a new tab, and the tray application remains open and obstructs the view. Annoying, you must manually close the entire tray application to view it.
PIA servers are spread over 32 countries – fewer than other large VPNs, but at least there is a real physical server everywhere.
While 3,300+ VPN servers are a very good number, there can only be one IP address for each.
Speed and Reliability
One thing is certain: Private Internet Access is very fast.
Most PIA servers have achieved impressive speeds: if you live near London, New York or Toronto and want to connect locally, you won’t find a faster provider right now.
Take a look at some of the outstanding speed results we’ve seen in our latest tests:
Before using Private Internet Access:
When connect to Private Internet Access:
Download speed without Private Internet Acess: 92 Mbps
Download speed with Private Internet Access: 89 Mbps
Loss of download speed while Private Internet Access is running: 3%
Private Interner Access has almost all the best features you can find in a VPN. Encrypted WiFi, P2P support, the ability to use 10 devices at the same time, such as the ability to keep records, has managed to become the choice of many VPN users.
Platforms and Devices
On both desktop and mobile devices, there are special applications to enable Custom Internet Access to run on all popular operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows
- Apple MacOS
You can use PIA VPN on multiple devices, up to a total of 10 (this is an average of 5). Manual installation guides are also available on official websites to help you on darker platforms or older operating system versions.
Game Consoles and Streaming Devices
- Amazon Fire TV
There is a special application for Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, but setting up a VPN requires some technical knowledge. Once installed, you’ll be able to easily stream your favorite video content.
It is also possible to use PIA’s software with other streaming devices and game consoles, such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Google Chromecast. To do this, you must set up VPN at the router level; this protects all devices connected to your home router.
Prices and Return Policy
A 1-month subscription with Private Internet Access is $ 9.95, but is now down to $ 6.95 per month.
Monthly price, extended subscription, and a 12-month plan sold for $ 3.33 per month, which is very competitive and almost the cheapest plan among top-level VPNs.
The PIA does not have a free trial period and the money back guarantee is only 7 days.
Encryption and Security
After all, you’re probably still wondering one question: Is PIA VPN reliable?
The answer is YES. Private Internet Access is one of the most advanced VPNs on the market to satisfy even the most demanding users.
You get a wide range of security protocols (favorite, including OpenVPN), encryption (including AES-256), an ad and malware blocker (PIA MACE), and a kill switch.
It also has IPV6 leakage protection, even if you’re unlikely to need it right now.
Not having 24/7 live chat isn’t good. It is a feature that almost all major VPN providers have and we hope to see in PIA VPN soon.
With PIA VPN you can only chat live with support from 4:00 to 01:00 UTC. To do this, you must also log in to the member field, which means it only applies to paying customers.
Do you recommend?
It’s not the best to watch Netflix, or if you’re a Fire Stick TV user, it’s not one of our recommendations, but PIA VPN is one of the fastest VPN services offered in 2019, and above all, we can easily recommend it for high-speed callers.
